Curriculum

The curriculum is designed to provide broad clinical exposure in acute and chronic care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as extensive experience in appropriate therapeutic options and procedures. Residents will have the opportunity to individualize their training experience to prepare to enter the next phase of their career, including inpatient psychiatry, ambulatory practice, or pursuing a fellowship in a psychiatry sub-specialty of their choice. The primary care rotation is comprised of a mix of outpatient/inpatient medicine, emergency medicine, and pediatrics.

PARTHENON PAVILLION

Parthenon Pavilion is the largest and longest-standing psychiatric hospital in Nashville. A variety of psychiatric care is provided, such as inpatient and partial hospitalization, ECT, and so on. Specialized inpatient units include an Adolescent unit and Geriatric unit. With over 48 years of service providing mental healthcare, Parthenon Pavilion has been nationally recognized for its violence reduction protocols and dementia care.

NASHVILLE V.A.

The Nashville Veterans Affairs hospital provides comprehemsive primary and specialty health services. In their second year, our residents rotate at the VA in subspecialty clinics including substance use, sleep medicine, ketamine, and outpatient clinics, as well as on a street psychiatry team.

TriStar Centennial Medical Center is the flagship of HCA hospitals and the first hospital in the company. Being a 741-bed, full service tertiary-care center, CMC offers comprehensive medical services: including primary care, comprehensive cardiology care, innovative oncology treatments, bariatric surgery, spine surgery, radiology, a primary stroke center, in-house clinics, CRISPR genome-edited medicine, and so on!

OUTPATIENT CLINIC

Our TriStar Psychiatric Continuity clinic has been operating for 2 years and is now moving into a bigger space on the other side of Centennial park. In our clinic, faculty teach residents to manage patients as humans first as they manage a variety of psychopathology.
